Aspiring Academic Leaders’ Development Program

Nominations are now open for the 2016/2017 Leading Curtin: Aspiring Academic Leaders Development Program. Participation in this program is via Line Manager Nomination. Please refer to the flyer for full program details, nomination process and form.

This 12-month program is aimed at and will particularly benefit: newer Heads of School (in their 1st or 2nd year in the role), Deputy and prospective Heads of School/large Departments, or academics who regularly deputise for a Head of School or large Department, Deans, Directors of T&L R&D and/or any other academic staff identified as potential leaders.

Participants complete four two-day modules and undertake 360-degree process. Presentations, discussions and facilitation are led by Curtin’s Senior Executives, identified academic exemplars (from Curtin and other institutions), subject matter experts and experienced facilitators to ensure the program is interactive, of high quality and relevant to participants.

The program takes a holistic approach to development encompassing the five themes of the Curtin Leadership Framework: Managing Self, Leading Others, Leading Innovation and Change, Leading Strategically, and Managing Operations.

The Leading Curtin: Aspiring Academic Leaders Development Program is designed to:

  • further develop the leadership and management capabilities as academic leaders;
  • extend participants’ self-knowledge, personal capacity and confidence as leaders;
  • develop a range of practical skills for leading others and a significant portion of the University’s business;
  • Strengthen participants’ ability to align team and school’s objectives with those of the University;
  • build and strengthen working relationships and collegial networks across the University; and deepen Curtin’s leadership and succession planning capacity.
