Emerging Leaders and Managers Program (eLAMP)

In late 2012 the LH Martin Institute and the Association for Tertiary Education Management (ATEM) announced a newly developed leadership development program known as eLAMP – the Emerging Leaders and Managers Program (eLAMP). The eLAMP program is designed for new and aspiring managers to develop their skills, knowledge and capacities to lead and manage effectively in the current and rapidly changing tertiary education environment.

Curtin University staff have successfully participated in eLAMP in 2014, 2015 and 2016 with more than 80 participants over this period. We have been a foundation member of the WA combined cohort consisting of staff from Curtin University, ECU, North Metropolitan TAFE (formerly Central Institute of Technology), Murdoch University and UWA.

The program is offered through a combination of online and face-to-face workshops and can lead to the award of 25 credit points towards a graduate certificate qualification (50%) from the University of Melbourne. In turn, the graduate certificate can lead into LH Martin’s Master of Tertiary Education Management.

The program has been designed for both academic and professional staff currently in a leadership role i.e. have supervisory and managerial responsibility of others; or have undertaken this role in the past.   Modules have been selected with an emphasis on effective personal management and leadership of others and has been aligned to the Curtin Leadership Framework.

By successfully completing the program participants will gain:

• An understanding of the breadth and depth of the tertiary education landscape in the Australian, New Zealand and global contexts;

• An understanding of the complex internal and external drivers influencing the sector and learn how to respond appropriately to them;

• An insight into the different roles and styles leaders and managers need to adopt to be successful in their roles and develop flexibility across these styles and roles; and

• A grasp of the nuances of policy and learn how it aligns with strategic intention and how it influences the development of organisational culture.

The eLAMP program is comprised of 4 online modules:

1. Managing and developing yourself;
2. Managing and developing others;
3. Managing and developing the business; and
4. Understanding the tertiary education landscape.

For each of the modules there will be a half-day face-to face workshop and a mid-module half-day face-to-face workshop. More details are available from the LH Martin Institute’s website.

The enrolment fee for the next eLAMP intake is $1600 per participant ($200 less than for the current program).
