Head of School Development Program

The Leading Curtin: Head of School Development Program is a 12-month program, by invitation, for newer Heads of School, Deputy and prospective Heads of School, as well as heads of large departments at Curtin. Pro Vice-Chancellors nominate participants for the program around August each year.

Head of School DevelopmentParticipants complete four two-day modules and a negotiated action learning project. Presentations, discussions and facilitation are led by Curtin’s Senior Executives, identified academic exemplars (from Curtin and other institutions), subject matter experts and experienced facilitators to ensure the program is interactive, of high quality and relevant to participants. Whilst the program has sound theoretical underpinnings, it provides a holistic, practical and contextualised approach.

The Leading Curtin: Head of School Development Program is designed to:

  • further develop the leadership and management capabilities of participants
  • extend participants’ self-knowledge, personal capacity and confidence as leaders
  • develop a range of practical skills for leading others and a significant portion of the University’s business
  • enhance participants’ skills to align the team and school’s objectives with the University
  • build and strengthen working relationships and collegial networks across the University, and
  • deepen Curtin’s leadership and succession planning capacity.
